Lip filler is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel placed in or around the lips to restore volume, refine shape or improve proportion. Product selection and the amount used are individualized rather than standardized.

Concerns commonly discussed include age-related volume loss, subtle volume enhancement, improved lip proportion, border definition, support of lip shape and selected asymmetry. Whether any of these apply to you is determined at assessment.

Appropriate candidates are generally healthy adults seeking natural-appearing improvement in lip volume, shape or proportion. Final candidacy is determined after review of health history, anatomy and treatment goals.

Treatment may be deferred or declined during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an active infection or skin condition in the treatment area, with certain medical or autoimmune conditions, with known sensitivity to the product, or when expectations cannot be met safely. Suitability is reviewed individually.

We assess lip-to-face proportion, the relationship between the upper and lower lip, your profile, dental support, movement, any existing filler and the degree of enhancement you are considering. Health history, options, risks and alternatives are reviewed before treatment.

Lip appointments are generally scheduled for approximately 30 to 60 minutes, which includes consultation, numbing and treatment. Actual time varies from person to person.

Swelling is common and may be most noticeable during the first several days. Bruising, tenderness, firmness and temporary asymmetry from swelling may occur. Final appearance should not be judged immediately after treatment.

Shape continues to settle as swelling resolves over the days and weeks that follow. Results are temporary and duration varies depending on product, amount used, individual metabolism, lip movement and treatment goals.

Some patients prefer a staged approach using smaller amounts across more than one visit. A follow-up assessment is sometimes recommended so results can be reviewed and adjusted if appropriate. Your plan and intervals are discussed at consultation.

Commonly reported effects include temporary swelling, bruising, tenderness, redness, firmness and small areas of unevenness that usually settle. Less common risks, including vascular complications, are reviewed with you and consent is obtained before treatment.
